South Florida Doors and Windows - FAQ

Can accordion shutters be closed from inside?

Accordion shutters can be opened and closed very easily from inside your home. In the case of a hurricane, anyone can close and lock them as they do not weigh too much. These are very useful if you live on the 2nd floor or in a high rise building where you can’t open or close them easily from outside. The shutters have to be pulled together and snapped into place to be locked. Depending on the shutter, there are different locks for them. Either you have a handle lock where a key is needed to lock the door, or some of them have locking rods that stop the shutters from rattling in strong winds.
