What are low e impact windows?
Low E windows are windows made to be energy efficient. The low e stands for low thermal emissivity because of how it absorbs heat and reflects it to its source. Standard glass can absorb the heat from the sun and the heat within your home. That heat is later reflected outside at night. This is why some households are very hot during the day then very cold at night. In the end, we use our heating and cooling appliances more than needed.
To improve insulation in a window, a thin film is put on raw glass. The manufacturers designed it so it could be placed on multiple surfaces of insulated glass if needed. This film reflects radiant infrared energy which keeps the energy on the side it came from. The heat from the sun will reflect outside while the temperature inside will maintain the same.
